What is the advantage of a crewed charter?

It is simply not possible to have a more personalised holiday and receive a higher level of attention than on a crewed charter.

Even before you arrive on board the luxury yacht, the crew will have received a full list of your preferences, including allergies, favourite foods, and brands you prefer. It is also usually possible to have pets with you on your luxury cruise. This way, you will spend an individual holiday in a maritime ambience where you do not have to do without your favourite things.

You and your guests can enjoy every meal or cocktail without having to worry about hosting, cooking, preparing the drinks or cleaning up afterwards. Because the charter yacht comes with a crew, it is usually very well maintained and in great condition. One more thing you do not have to worry about. You can also hire a hostess to work as a nanny for your children so that you can go out at the ports and enjoy the nightlife. Some guests like to book a massage therapist, yoga teacher or nutritionist to make the most of their holiday and get the pampering they need. Either way, while you sleep, the crew can take you to the next beautiful place and you wake up refreshed each day with a new view from your porthole.
  

How much does a crewed charter cost?

An economic crewed yacht charter on a 15-meter monohull sailboat costs around 800 Euro per day or 6,000 Euro per week. On a skippered 50 feet catamaran with 4 cabins for 8 persons, the weekly charter price might range in between 8,000 Euro and 18,000 Euro depending on the destination and season. For a 60 feet catamaran, the weekly hire will be in between 20,000 Euro and 30,000 Euro.

Luxury superyachts charters start around 3000 Euro per day and reach up to 80,000 Euro per week in dependency of boat type and size, number of crew members, destination and season.

Premium megayachts with lenghts over 60 meter (200 feet) have an average cost of around 100,000 Euro per week. The biggest megayachts in the world reach weekly rental fees in between 200,000 and 500,000 Euro.

Is the APA an extra cost for a luxury charter?

The charter price covers the rental of the yacht including the captain and the crew. On top of that, there are additional expenses for a private cruise that are paid by the charter guest. Those expenses are for transfers, provisioning, drinks, harbour fees, gasoline consumption and communication. On luxury charters, those costs are paid in advance as a deposit called "APA" (Advanced Provisioning Allowance). Depending of the type of boat and destination, the APA is around 25 - 40% of the charter price. Before the guest leaves the boat, he receives a calculation of all costs from the captain. The difference to the paid APA than will be balanced with the guest before the check-out.

What is the difference between a crewed charter and a bareboat charter?

A crewed charter includes a captain who will take responsibility for steering the yacht, planning the itineraries and providing you with experience and advice on the different destinations and ports. Therefore, you can sit back, relax and, whenever you want, take the helm and test your driving skills with the help of a trained skipper.  On the opposite, in a bareboat charter, you will steer the yacht. This requires that you have a skipper license and you take over the full responsability for the boat and the guests on board. 

How many crew members does a super yacht has?

Depending on your needs and the number of cabins on board, you can have a captain, one or more first officers, deckhands and stewardesses and a chef / sous-chef. Nannies, personal trainers, diving instructors, beauticians, etc. can also be hired for your private cruise. On a crewed charter, everything revolves around you.

Where I can make a holiday on a luxury yacht?

The most popular destination for luxury charters is the Mediterranean. Around 70% of all crewed charters happen there. Croatia, Greece, Italy and the Balearics offer a wide selection of large charter boats. You can find luxury yacht charters from the following ports in Croatia: Pula (Istria), Krk (Island Punat), Zadar, Biograd, Sibenik, Primosten (Marina Kremik), Trogir, Split and Dubrovnik.

Mallorca and Ibiza are the best-known destinations for luxury charters in Spain: Palma de Mallorca, Puerto Adriano, Puerto Portals, Andratx, Cala d'Or on the island of Mallorca. On the island of Ibiza, Eivissa (Ibiza town) and San Antonio are the top locations for luxury motor yacht rentals. At the Spanish coast, Marbella and Malaga are the best ports for hiring a luxury motoryacht.

In France, the most requested ports for renting big yachts are Nice and Monte Carlo. Especially during the Formula 1 event in Monaco, there is a big demand for a combination with a superyacht accomodation.

Another important destination for luxury yacht charters is the Caribbean Sea. Especially North American guests like to spend their yachting vacations on the BVI's or the American Virgin Islands. Popular areas for luxury private cruises in the Caribbean are also Cuba, the Bahmas, Antigua or Saint Martin.  
  

What type of yacht is the most suitable for a luxury charter?

In principle, any type of boat can be rented for a crewed charter. Sailing yachts are beautiful and elegant, but catamarans offer more space. Motor yachts are faster to reach the beach of your dreams and provide more thrill speeding through the sea. However, you may prefer the classic feel of a sailing yacht. Therefore, it all depends on your individual needs and preferences. Why not opt for a private catamaran cruise if large indoor and outdoor space is crucial for you? Those multihulls are very popular, especially with larger charter groups, and can accommodate more crew. Their great stability on the move or at anchor makes these boats ideal for people who are new to sailing or who get seasick easily.

The sizes of luxury yachts vary. Boats over 24-meter length are considered superyachts. If they are over 60-meter they are classified as megayachts. The largest luxury yacht to date is the German-built motor yacht "Azzam", at 180 meter in length. It is just ahead of the 159 Meter "Fulk al Salamah" and Roman Abramovich's 163 meter "Eclipse".  

How much privacy can I expect on a yacht with a crew?

Although you will be in close contact with the crew during your stay on the yacht, the crew of the luxury yacht will respect your privacy at all times and give you as much space as possible. At the same time, they will try to cater to your every wish whenever possible. In addition, you do not have to worry about them getting too close to you or being expected to engage them in conversation all the time. Yachts smaller than 24-meter length have separated cabins for crew and guests but there are common areas like the salon and deck, which cannot guarantee full privacy. On Superyachts and Megayachts, the crew areas are clearly separated from the guest salons and cabins. You will only need to see them when you need them or if you want to have an occasional chat.  

What kind of water toys are on a luxury yacht?

There is almost no limit to the luxury toys a megayacht can have on board as long as you are willed to pay for it. You can choose from water skis, wakeboards, snorkelling and diving equipment, surfboards and kiteboards, SUP boards, jet skis, sea bobs, tenders, folding bikes, kayaks, doughnuts, bananas and much more.
