Split is a must-go-to location for anyone who travels to Croatia and to the Adriatic. This is one of the most famous ancient towns of the Croatian shore, also made famous by the ruins of Diocletian's Palace. Yacht charter Split is also the home of one of the oldest marinas in this part of the Mediterranean, the ACI Split Marina, open since 1983.
Location & Approach Everyone has heard of the famous Adriatic resort from Croatia, Split, which is not only one of the biggest but also one of the most beautiful cities on this side of the coast. The ACI Split Marina is located in the southewest part of the bay that makes up the Split harbor, one of the biggest and oldest (founded in 1983) of the Adriatic.
Due to its position on the shore, the marina is surrounded on almost every side by a breakwater to protect it from the currents and strong southern winds. The entrance is close to the shoreline, facing the north, thus the calmer interior of the bay. The exact position of the marina, given for the skippers, is 43°30,1’ N 16°26,0’ E and it should also be mentioned that while it’s a busy facility during the in season, ACI Split Marina is open all year round.
During your approach, keep an eye out for the tall bell tower of the Cathedral St. Domnius on the Marjan Hill, to the west of the marina. Once you enter the bay, you’ll notice a lighthouse on the marina’s breakwater, and also green flashing lights, while on the opposite side of cape Sustipan there are red flashing lights, warning all incoming boats. The inner break water of the marina, the one facing north, is also marked with a red lighthouse. After entering the marina, keep clear of the reefs close to the shore, marked by a green buoy.
Infrastructure & Ambience In order to provide to all the guests, the marina has 364 berths on the water for boats with a maximum draught of 3m and a maximum length of 70m, and an additional 70 boat storage places on land. Should you book a berth here, you will be given water and power supply (220V). Apart from that, you can use the marina’s toilets and showers, restaurant, reception, exchange office, laundry service and market.
In case your boat needs repairs, there is a repair shop which benefits a 10t crane, a 35t slipway and a gas station (this being located in front of the Marjan Hotel, 100m from the marina itself). Some of the parts can be purchased at the local nautical shop, or from town. Being so close to Split, the marina is easily accessible from land, sea and air to all groups. There is a parking lot nearby, the train and bus stations are located less than 1km from the marina and the international airport is 20km from the city. Remember that Split harbor has regular ferry lines to Rijeka, Dubrovnik and Ancona (Italy).
Another bonus of docking in a marina near a big town is the fact that you can sort all entry formalities right here in the harbor. The customs office in the Split port is open all year round. Remember that since Split is a very desirable location, the almost 400 berths become quickly booked up in summer with customers, so if you’re planning a stay during that period, it would be wise to book ahead.
Among the main attractions Split has to offer, Diocletian’s Palace is the top one, as well as other important buildings and museums. It’s no wonder the town was included in the UNESCO World Heritage circuit. And on top of that tourists can enjoy here a lot of good quality sailing.
