Aided by the central position between Split and Trogir, by a number of exclusive services and a decent number of berths, the Kastela Marina is quickly becoming a gathering point for many yacht charter sailors year after year.
Location & Approach One of the newest Croatian marinas, Kastela is situated on the southeastern shores of Kastela Bay, just east of the major resort of Split on the Dalmatian coast in the southern Adriatic, part of the Croatia Riviera. The idea behind this marina was to provide quality services to the many locals and tourists coming during the weekend rushes on the seaside.
Its perfect location just 7km from Split international airport, affords the marina an incredible accessibility, as well as minimal transfer time. The city of Trogir is also close by, adding to the masses converging to the area. The Kastela Bay, where the marina is located, is one of the largest and the busiest of the Dalmatian coast.
The marina’s position is sheltered from winds coming from inland by the Kozjak mountain while the Ciovo peninsula and Marjan protect it from winds coming from out to sea. The approach to the Kastela can be made via the western pointing entry point between the linear breakwaters and the shoreline. skippers needn’t worry though as the passage is wide enough and deep (4.8m at the entry point) enough and very well marked with lights. However, there are some portions that have a sandy, more shallow seabed, especially near the coast that should be avoided (the Galija shallow marked with yellow lights).
After entry remember that the speed limit inside the marina is 2 knots and that you’re supposed to contact the on-duty officer on VHF channel 17 for further directions about your berthing or mooring position.
Infrastructure & Ambience The marina is medium sized, with its 400 berths out to sea and some 200 additional dry berths on land that provide winter conditions for private boats. The water berths have electricity and water supply and are located along the 4 parallel piers and the breakwater. There is a service area which houses the 5t crane, the 40t travel lift and the workshops for engine and hull repairs.
The customers are provided with toilets and showers, an air conditioned lounge, a reception, a supermarket, a caffe-bar, a restaurant and a parking for 437 cars. There are also shops with nautical gear and souvenirs, but as with most marinas, most of the shopping is done in the town.
Visitors can enjoy the medieval-looking Kastel Gomilica, one of the seven towns that make up the city of Kastela, the second largest in Croatia. This has many historical landmarks as well as a certain charm that can only be found on the Dalmatian coast. Split and Trogir are just a stone throw away and both provide plenty of sailing and entertainment facilities to a great number of holidaymakers every year.
If you’re planning a visit to the Croatian seaside, then Kastela is the perfect marina to start your voyage as its central position on the Adriatic shore allows you to other points of interest along the coast with ease. Cosmopolitan and easy to reach, the Kastela marina will surely have you coming back in no time.
