Not all marinas are the same – at least the most experienced yachties have known this for a long time. All the more reason for you to appreciate the quality of this marina amidst the Caribbean paradise.
Location & Approach It has to be said that the marina at Bas du Fort has a great location. Close enough to the capital city of Point a Pitre to benefit from the airport and numerous other connections but far enough to avoid the hustle and bustle of modern and give the holidaymaker the relaxation sought in a the tropical paradise of Guadeloupe.
Another fact that makes this marina have an excellent reputation is the fact that is has a comprehensive list of services and a very good staff, on standby round to the clock for the guests. The Bas du Fort marina can be found just south of the capital city of Point a Pitre in a natural bay formed by an elongated, narrow promontory that acts as a breakwater. Inside the marina, there is another promontory that plays the part of a pier perfectly, giving it a natural look.
The channel leading up to the marina is 100m and has a depth of 10m, which is unlike many other places on tropical islands such as Guadeloupe. Also, skippers will be glad to know that the channel is marked with plenty of buoys, suited for a nighttime approach. The coordinates for the marina are 16°13’ N 61°31’ W, with entry available in all conditions of weather, by day or by night since it’s open 24 hours a day thanks to the buoys system at the entry of the channel pass.
Infrastructure & Ambience The marina has 1000 slips within the bay, for boats with a maximum draft of 4.5m and a maximum length of 50m. These are fully serviced, with water and power supply (220 and 110V on a couple of piers). visitors can enjoy their holiday as the marina is guarded and has permanent surveillance.
The marina repair complex is fitted with a 35t travel lift and an impressive 25 workshops for repairs, which are necessary taking into consideration the huge number of boats moored here at maximum capacity. Among other services indispensable to good sailing, the marina offers weather service on a daily basis, a post office, a large wing with sanitary facilities (showers and toilets), a first aid station and emergency technical service.
The supermarket contains multiple shops but also the recreational facilities which include sporting activities. Here you’ll find the rest of the basic needs covered: a laundry service, waste disposal collection, a gas station, Wi Fi access and a taxi station. For those guests who wish to enrich their Caribbean experience, the marina offers a wide range of bare boats, scuba dive equipment, fishing boats and tour boats.
The area around Bas du Port is full of nice, sandy beaches and still has the infrastructure needed for modern life to function. From this respect many boatmen may find the area a bit too urbanized at times and might feel better traveling to the center of the island where modern life has penetrated very little.
