The Marina Cala Galera located on the Tuscan coast offers all the services a charter guest can wish.
Location & Approach Built in the 70s, Cala Galera is quickly becoming one of the best equipped marinas on Italy’s eastern shore, not to mention one of the biggest at 670 berths. The exact location is near Porto Ercole on the island of Argentario, near one of the three stretches of land that connects it with the Italian peninsula and thus makes access easier for tourists arriving by car.
For better protection, the marina has 2 breakwaters, one to the north and one to the south, both marked by lighthouses and beacons (red and white, with 2 seconds flashing intervals) for easier spotting by skippers during the night. The only times when entry in the marina is made difficult is when the winds blow from the east, towards the shore.
Infrastructure & Ambience The marina is very well equipped to handle any kind of boats and has 670 berths, for yachts between 6 and 50m in length. Out of these 70 are for boats in traffic up to 50m in length and have a maximum depth between 3.5 and 6.5 m. Each berth has water and electricity, and there’s also a petrol station and a repair facility. Among the other facilities included here for boats are a 350t travel lift and a 40t crane.
Along the two breakwaters there are storage buildings as well as a number of customer-related services such as shops, restaurants, pizzerias, nautical shops, bars, pubs and ATMs, a tourism office and even a supermarket. The marina provides additional weather information via radio on channel 9 VHF and also assistance to guests.
The whole region is the perfect place to start exploring the Mediterranean, with numerous populated or deserted islands that act as nature reserves. These include Giannutri, Isola de Giglio, Grosseto, Monte Cristo, Elba, Corsica and even Sardinia.
