A high level of quality and a good position within the northern Adriatic, make the Izola marina a favorite among yachting enthusiasts. Spacious and modern, the marina can provide you with a number of services while being easy to reach, and providing you with sailing opportunities to 3 countries: Italy, Slovenia and Croatia
Location & Approach Like the name says, this marina can be found to the west of the ancient Slovenian town of Izola. This particular location is just north of the border with Croatia, in the northeast of the Adriatic Sea, near the Gulf of Triest, which is also shared with Italy. There are many harbors and ports here due to the strategic position and due to a long naval tradition of the local populace.
The good part about being located near a resort is the fact that you have plenty of accommodation facilities as well as numerous restaurants, nighttimes entertainment venues and even some sights.
The marina lies just west of the peninsula formed by the Punta Gallo and is protected by two piers, one to the north and one to the south, which is slightly longer, The two breakwaters overlap at some point, so that the entry point faces to the west, making the approach difficult for ships when the winds blow from that direction.
The approach from the south is made going around the Izola peninsula, keeping a safe distance from the land as there are shoals close to the shore. When coming from the north, the skipper must take care of the pipe going out 500m into the sea. Both breakwaters are marked with green and red flashing lights respectively.
Infrastructure & Ambience As you enter the marina, you are going to see a pier made out of concrete where you’ll find the admission office where you check in. Izola Marina caters to boats up to 35m long and with a draft up to 4.5m, for which there are 650 offshore moorings. 50 spaces out of those are reserved for transit boats.
On the pier, you will find water and electricity connections, fax and telephone also available but only at the reception office. There is boat service available on site, maintenance for outboard and inboard motors, electronic and hydraulic equipment and sail and rigging repair. This is done with the help of a 50t mobile lift, a trailer which can haul vessels up to 5t and a crane for masts.
The local fuel station is operational between April and September and the marina also offers sewage disposal facilities in accordance with its Blue Flag status. This means you can safely dispose of several materials from your ship like used oil, bilge water, batteries and old paint safely, not to mention the sewage from chemical toilets.
For the guest, the Izola marina offers a range of additional services, common to this type of tourist facility. These include toilets and showers, a laundry, a chandlery shop, a secure private paring which can hold up to 600 cars, a clinic with a pharmacy. Near the marina, the sailors can find a post office, banks, a hospital, as well as connections to major airports such as Portoroz, Ljubljana and Triest.
