Marina de Cala d´Or is situated in a wonderful, deeply cut-in bay (cala) not far from the lively town centre of Cala d´Or. Apart from being a safe location, it's also situated in a rural zone that offers the best of the Balearics, both in terms of towns and landscape
Location & Approach Like the name says, the marina is located in the beautiful and priviledged town resort of Cala d’Or, on the southeastern corner of the Island of Mallorca, part of the Balerics in the western Mediterranean.
The Cala d’Or marina is in fact located in one of the neighboring bays of the town itself, Cala Longa. This location was chose because mooring ships would then be protected from winds and water currents coming from the sea. However, sometimes, a strong easterly wind makes its presence known due to the disposition of the marina entry, increasing the swell.
The entrance to the marina is at the mouth of the elongated bay of Cala Longa and it’s marked by green and red flashing buoys. The bay itself is very good for ship mooring, a fact noticed also by the ancients who built a fort here to protect their ships from naval attacks. The bay has three inlets but this only one entry point. skippers coming from the south can easily identify the Punta del Fontin lighthouse and the fort. Entry is achieved by taking a westward course through the marina entrance. Follow the port side coast for 50m into Cala Longa and then into the marina via the system of buoys.
Infrastructure & Ambience The marina is very well equipped with a number of services as well as plenty of berths, though during the summer season it’s not unusual for the marina to be all booked up. The offices are located in the first inlet from the entry, next to that being the shipyard and the workshops. There is also a nonstop petrol and diesel pump station located on the waiting dock by the entry. Toilets and showers can be found near the main offices and are open 24/7 all year round.
In total, there are 563 berths for boats up to 25m in length. The larger berths also have water and electricity supplies (220V), telephone access, mooring clump, chain and line as anchoring within the marina is prohibited. Among some of the other services, the marina also has a 50t travel lift and a 3.5t crane.
Additional services provided by the marina include free parking, radio monitoring and broadcasting on radio channel 9 VHF, waste disposal service, weather forecast service, offshore berthing management and internet access.
The ambience of the marina is that of a small fishing village, rather than that of a popular resort. There are few high-rise buildings but numerous medieval buildings and of course, plenty of white sandy beaches. Shops, restaurants and boutiques can be found within the marina but also in town, with a varied offer of products. Neighboring towns also keep with that Balearic rural look, though they get crowded in summer and on market days (a great opportunity to pick up some local produce or souvenirs for good prices). Banks, launderette and medical services can be found into town.
