Marina Puerto Calero – Luxury Harbour For Demanding Guests

Location & Approach

Known also as Costa Calero, this is one of the quietest resorts on Lanzarote island from the Canary archipelago. Not only quiet, it’s also one of the smaller Yacht Charter destinations on the island. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not one of the best and most luxurious marinas of the region, catering to a select number of Yacht Charter guests.

Located on the southwestern coast of the island, Puerto Calero boasts a perfect geographic position, sheltered from Lanzarote’s prevailing northeastern winds. There is also added wind protection from the neighboring Fuerteventura island and the mountain range forming Punta Gorda’s coast from the southwest. There are few curves in the coastline and the water is quite deep, thus making approach from any direction very easy, even for beginner Yacht Charter skippers.

The location is also perfect for the Yacht Charter gropus flying in, as marina Puerto Calero is located 10 km from the airport and 20 km from Arrecife which is the island’s capital, making the transfer time as short as possible.

Infrastructure & Ambience

Built in 1989, this harbor which is today nicknamed “the millionaire’s marina” slowly evolved to hold bigger and more expensive yacht so that by 1997 it had doubled its number of berths to 420 between 8 and 60 meters (to accommodate those superyachts). The marina currently has 450 berths. The infrastructure of the marina itself was also changed to cope with the requests of the Yacht Charter guests.

As you can imagine, the range of services offered by such a marina is quite extensive. The berths have electricity, drinking water. You can find washrooms, a petrol station, a dry dock, a 90 t travel lift, a crane and sail repair services on location. There is also a weather service, a maritime channel, a recycling depot, internet access, telephone and fax, launderette, car rental and car parking available, not to mention a tourist information center, probably the most vital for those Yacht Charter groups looking to do a little exploration on shore.

Around the marina you’ll find many restaurants and cafes which serve International, Spanish and Italian food (the ubiquitous pizzerias). A more careful look around town and you’ll also find the souvenir shops and the clothes boutiques, especially designed for the Yacht Charter visitors.

The activities here include a hoard of water sports (catamaran trips and submarine excursions) as well as fishing and diving, while on land there is a golf course where you can pass the day away putting on the green. For a nice time after dark with your Yacht Charter buddies, you’ll have to head out to neighboring Puerto del Carmen where you can find a few clubs and discos.
