Location & Approach
On the northeastern side of the island of Mallorca, part of the Balearics archipelago in western Mediterranean, the small but picturesque resort of Alcudia rests on a small peninsula jutting out into the sea. Located on the opposite side of the “fun part” of the island which is the southwest and is represented by the bustling tow of Palma, Alcudia is less popular but nonetheless beautiful, especially to sailors.
The marina at Port Alcudia, or Puerto de Alcudia as the locals call it, is of medium size and is the main focus point for those visitors who arrive here with purposes in mind, on the seawalk or Paseig Maritim, as the locals call it. The marina is made even more attractive to visitors thanks to the stunning beach that goes around for miles, surrounding the whole bay.
The coordinates for the marina are 39º49'N and 03º08'E, on the south side of the peninsula that makes up the town of Alcudia. It’s protected by two breakwaters, a larger, semicircular one to the southwest which has many piers, and another smaller, perpendicular one to the east closing in the gap and forming the entry point to the marina which points east, towards the shore, thus offering maximum protection to incoming boats.
The approach is made difficult in strong winds from the shore that can lead to rough seas in front of the marina. skippers should be aware that the water depth around the marina is 4m, slowing decreasing to 3.9 and even 2.5 meters once inside.
